Why You Can’t Grow Alone: The Everyday Power of Community
Discover how true community strengthens your faith and helps you thrive daily

This has been a crazy week but the email is here! I believe these principles on community will bless your life.
I’ve learned a lot from gardening, but one of the most surprising lessons came from growing lettuce. It’s easy to plant, grows quickly, and produces a satisfying harvest—most of the time. One year, I made the mistake of planting only lettuce. It looked perfect until one weekend, when pests wiped out the entire crop. It turned out that my mono-crop was vulnerable without the protection of a diverse, supportive garden.
The same is true for our lives. We’re not meant to grow in isolation. Just like my garden needed a variety of plants to thrive, we need the companionship of diverse community to strengthen and protect us as we grow in faith.
This Week’s Focus: The Everyday Power of Community
Community is more than Sunday gatherings or social events; it’s about having people who lift you up, keep you grounded, and point you to Christ. Here’s how community can transform your daily life:
1) Community Guards Against Weakness
In the garden, different plants protect each other. In life, the right people help guard you from spiritual struggles. When you share life with others, you gain support that shields you against discouragement and temptation. You’re less likely to fall when someone’s there to catch you.
2) Sharing Life Brings Growth
Every day, we face challenges that can make us feel alone or overwhelmed. Being in a community where others pray for you, share their wisdom, and lend a listening ear helps you grow in resilience. When one person struggles, others can step in to help. Like corn supporting beans in the garden, a friend can be that structure you lean on when life feels heavy.
3) You Reflect God’s Design
We are created in the image of a relational God. Genesis 1:26 reminds us, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness.” We’re designed to thrive in relationships, where love, accountability, and encouragement flow freely. Living in community reflects God’s nature and fulfills our purpose.
4) Everyday Community Matters
It’s not just big moments that build community; it’s in the everyday interactions—texts checking in on a friend, shared meals, or quick prayers together. These daily touchpoints cultivate deep roots in our lives that help us weather any storm.
Action Step: Find Your “Garden”
This week, make a conscious effort to engage in your community, whether it’s inviting a friend for coffee, attending a small group, or joining a service project. These moments build a supportive, faith-filled network around you that helps you thrive.
